Which SAFe® course should I attend?

At Biner, we offer SAFe courses that are all very valuable for you who are going to start working, or are already working, with SAFe.

If you feel confused about which course is right for you, you have come to the right place. In this article, we explain which of Biner's SAFe courses is aimed at which target group.


General for all courses is that they contain a part that explains SAFe as a framework and why you should use it. In addition, all courses contain a section on SAFe's agile values ​​and principles. All courses are based on active learning, which is a powerful way of learning and means that theory is mixed with practice in the course's different types of exercises. The practical exercises are aimed at the type of role that the course is aimed at.

Leading SAFe®

This course provides a very good overview of the entire framework. The course is perfect for you who want to learn and understand what SAFe is and how it is applied in practice. The course is an excellent introductory course to SAFe as most areas are addressed and it is common for leaders and managers in an organization that is going to implement SAFe to take this course. In this course there is also a simulation of a Program Increment (PI) Planning which is a key event in SAFe.

For you who want to:

SAFe® Product Owner / Product Manager

In this course, we carefully go through how you in the role of Product Owner and Product Manager contribute and deliver value in an agile organization. You will learn a proven way to perform the activities and manage the tools you need to manage backlogs and run agile programs.

For you who want to:

  • Adopt a Lean-Agile approach in the role of Product Owner and Product Manager
  • Learn how to write Epics and break them down into Features and User Stories
  • Gain a deep understanding of Agila Release Trains (ART) and how they create value
  • Learn how to work in continuous deliveries and embrace the DevOps culture

SAFe® for Teams

This course is primarily intended for team members such as developers but also for Scrum Masters and Product Owners. The course is especially suitable in cases where you have one or more teams that will work as a team in SAFe, but the course can of course be taken anyway. In this course, you train in all team events that are in SAFe, including the key event PI Planning - where a large simulation is performed.

For you who want to:

  • Ensure that your team works efficiently and smoothly together. Then this course is very suitable as a business course

SAFe® for Architects

This course helps architects understand how to contribute to consistent value flows in their organization. We go through how the architect's role in SAFe interacts with other parties, stakeholders and customers.

The course is suitable for you who want to learn more about the role as a system, solution and enterprise architect in a Lean-Agile company. Here you get a deeper insight into how architecture enables a continuous flow of value and how you as an architect can contribute to creating a Lean-Agile company and way of working.

Participants in this course should be familiar with the agile principles and practices and should also have participated in at least one SAFe course before.

  • Is an architect and works, or will work, in a Lean-Agile company
  • Want to learn how to participate in consistent value flows

SAFe® DevOps

In this course we go through what DevOps is and how to apply the CALMR method to DevOps. The course also includes a mapping of the so-called Continuous Delivery Pipeline where we go through Continuous Exploration, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deploy and Release on Demand in detail.

Participants in this course should be familiar with what their existing organization's delivery model and infrastructure looks like now in order to understand how it can be improved.

  • Wants to improve and shorten lead times from idea to finished function
  • Want to get a deeper understanding of the importance of automation
  • Want to learn how to work in continuous deliveries that embrace the DevOps culture

SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management

In this course, we go through what Lean Portfolio Management is and what constituent parts the function breaks down into. We go through how the Portfolio can be linked to the organization's strategy and how a Portfolio Vision can be created and developed over time. In the course, we also go through how value flows can be coordinated and how to work with Lean Budgeting.

Several parts of the course are conducted in Workshop format. These parts can be carried out with a fictitious company, but the participants can also use their own organization as a basis for these parts. Participants who wish to do so should be familiar with their organization's strategy and value streams.

  • Want practical tools for building an LPM function
  • Want to know more about Strategy and Funding, Agile Portfolio Operations and Lean Governance
  • Wants to work with both current and future status on the Portfolio level

Good to know

All courses are 2-3 days and after the course you have the opportunity to obtain certification after completing a test with a passed result. This test must be done within 30 days of completing the course.

The courses are held by Biner's certified SAFe Program Consultants, who all have extensive experience of coaching, educating and practically working with SAFe and DevOps in organizations that strive to become more agile.
